What are Suspended Solids?
Suspended Solids is simply a density measurement used to describe exactly how much waste sludge and particles are in the water. Used as one of the indicators of water quality in wastewater and industrial applications, suspended solids are used as part of the charging system for trade effluent.
Suspended Solids can be made up of both organic material and inorganic material depending on the location, and while high levels can occur naturally in some streams and bodies of water, generally a lower measurement is best for healthy water.
Suspended Solids monitoring
Monitoring Suspended Solids in wastewater and industrial process water can be useful for either process control or for alarming of unusual conditions. ATi provides industry-leading, reliable and accurate real-time monitoring of suspended solids for a variety of water and wastewater applications.
In biological treatment systems, monitoring suspended solids in the aeration tank can assist operators in maintaining optimum MLSS (Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids) concentration. In industrial clarifier’s, suspended solids water quality monitoring can warn of upset conditions that might result in the discharge of solids that exceed plant permits.
