What is Hydrogen Cyanide?
Hydrogen Cyanide is an industrial chemical, primarily used in the manufacture of paints, plastics, synthetic fibres and other chemicals in a wide variety of industries, including metal cleaning, gardening, dying, printing, pest control fumigant and photography. Exposure to Hydrogen Cyanide may occur in the workplace due to its wide usage, although safe levels are enforced to protect employees.
Due to its toxicity, hydrogen cyanide prevents the body from using oxygen properly. Early signs of exposure includes headache, nausea, dizziness, confusion and drowsiness, however substantial exposure may rapidly lead to unconsciousness, fitting, coma and possibly death.
Hydrogen Cyanide monitoring
Despite its bitter almond odour, only a specialist and reliable Hydrogen Cyanide detector can accurately measure its concentrations. It is important for many industries to install fast detection of Hydrogen Cyanide to avoid the gas reaching dangerous toxic levels.
ATi’s range of industry-leading Gas Detection solutions are designed to measure a wide variety of toxic and combustible gases in hazardous locations. Each of our fixed or portable detectors can be designed as stand-alone units or multipoint systems. Utilising ATi’s unique smart sensor technology, our gas detectors can go from Hydrogen Cyanide monitoring to Oxygen measurement in less than a minute, sounding an alarm if they reach dangerous levels.
